Creating a seamless immersive experience inside a large dome requires precise coordination between content preparation, projection mapping, and on-site calibration. For a 400㎡ dome space with a 9-metre ceiling height, aligning 19 projectors across a curved surface can involve complex adjustments and significant commissioning time.

For the Wushang Longmen Immersive Experience Hall at Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, hecoos supported the complete spherical mapping and playback workflow, providing the technical foundation for a large-scale immersive dome experience.

Previsualizing the Dome Experience Before Installation

Large-scale dome projection requires careful planning before equipment deployment. To reduce uncertainty during installation, the production team used hecoos for previsualization, projecting animation content onto a virtual sphere model to evaluate image distribution, playback balance, and overall coverage across the dome surface.

By identifying potential visual issues before arriving on site, the team was able to optimize content and projection planning ahead of physical calibration.

Simplifying On-Site Calibration with Spherical Mapping

During commissioning, hecoos’s spherical mapping workflow assisted projector alignment through projection back-calculation, helping determine projector positions and support accurate edge blending across the curved surface.

This connection between virtual planning and physical installation reduced repeated adjustments during calibration while maintaining consistent visual continuity across the entire dome.
